We’re here to enable change, we all know that empowered people make change, so let’s all get to it!
Being part of this program has significantly enriched our centre’s sustainability practices and deepened our community connections in meaningful ways. Through hands-on learning opportunities, both educators and children have become more engaged in environmentally conscious practices such as recycling, reducing waste, and caring for natural spaces. These values are now embedded in our daily routines and program planning.
Importantly, the program has fostered strong connections with our local community. Whether through excursions such as bush kindy, partnerships, or shared sustainability goals, we’ve had opportunities to work alongside local families, strengthening the sense of belonging and collective responsibility. It has also empowered the children to become active participants in caring for their environment, with their voices and ideas helping to shape sustainable actions both in and outside the centre.
The children have thoroughly enjoyed the animal visits and continue to show a strong interest in learning about and caring for living things. These experiences have sparked curiosity, compassion, and a deeper understanding of animal needs and habitats. Each visit has led to rich discussions, hands-on experiences, and ongoing play themes that extend into their daily learning. A beautiful outcome of this interest is the involvement of our families, many have begun bringing in baby chicks, ducklings, and other small animals to share with the group. This has created such a strong sense of community and connection, as the children proudly introduce their animal friends and take on roles as little educators, sharing what they know with their peers. These visits have become highly anticipated events and have helped build empathy, responsibility, and a love for the natural world.

If you were to recommend the 12-Month Sustainability Program to another centre, what would you say?
Absolutely! Even if only for the chickens – hahahaha! Seriously though, we haven’t looked back and have enjoyed every step of the program.
Children’s experience of the program:
The children absolutely love it when Megan and Andrew visit. During the day they will talk about things you have been teaching them. The Farmers said this and that.
How has being part of this program enriched your centre’s sustainability practices and community connections? It really has, soooo much! We are all more mindful of ensuring we are working towards a more sustainable future for the children we care for.
